Online forum “Against the crimes committed by Azerbaijan”

On March 22-25, 2020, an International scientific and practical Conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the massacre of the Armenian population of Shushi (Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabagh Republic, NKR)) was planned in city Shushi (Republic of Artsakh (NKR)) “Genocidal behavior of Azerbaijan: history and modernity (from political and legal assessment to the international court).”

The preparation lasted for more than two months; performances of about 50 experts from different countries were planned. The conference was co-organized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports of the Republic of Artsakh, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Tourism of the Republic of Artsakh , the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia and the “Culture and Future Foundation” (Russia). Conference partners were: Artsakh Scientific Center, “Khachmeruk” (“Crossroad”) Public organization of sociological and political initiatives (Armenia), National Archives of the Republic of Armenia, “Kachar” Scientific Center (Republic of Artsakh), “Orbeli” Analytical Research Center (Armenia), Russian friendship and cooperation society with Armenia (Russia).

Unfortunately, due to global complications associated with the spread of coronavirus, the conference was postponed until the pandemic ends.

Nevertheless, by agreement with the organizers of the conference and within the framework of its theme, an online forum-discussion “Against crimes committed by Azerbaijan” was prepared and held in the form of a preliminary stage of the planned conference. The structure that was adopted for the conference, in particular, a dividing in sections, was maximally preserved. Among the online participants was one of the speakers of the plenary session of the conference and its executive secretary. Two blocks were planned at the main conference: scientific (historical) and applied (practical). It was the representatives of the second block that made up the majority in the online forum-discussion.

By March 21, 23 participants of the main conference sent their materials (texts and videos in 3 languages), which were reflected on the web site (see List of participants, topics and links below) so that everyone could preliminarily familiarize with them. Of the 23 participants: 9 from Armenia, 3 from Artsakh, 5 from Russia, 3 from France, 2 from the UK, 1 from Lebanon.

The participants joined a new group on Facebook, where an online discussion took place from March 22 to 25. In addition to the conference participants themselves, in the online group (as of March 28) there were 22 more experts as observers, including four representatives of state structures of Armenia.

During the online discussion, there were dozens of proposals that a working group is currently working on to formulate a Resolution and a Program of practical actions (until the end of 2020).

14 participants of the online forum initiated the creation of the International Public Tribunal for crimes of Azerbaijan, and also accepted an open Appeal to the UN on his behalf.

Interested organizations and experts can join the ongoing Movement on International recognition of multiple crimes of genocide against Armenians committed by Azerbaijan and punishment.
