REASONS FOR THE MARCH GENOCIDE IN SHUSHI 1920 AND MODERN CHALLENGES (HISTORICAL, POLITICAL, LEGAL AND MILITARY ASPECTS)

REZUME

The purpose of this article is a critical analysis of assessments by Armenian historiography on the reasons for the failure of the self-defense of the city of Shushi in March 23, 1920, in order to draw relevant and necessary conclusions on this basis.

Among the problems raised in Armenian historiography in one way or another, but still not having a single opinion, we can note the attitude towards the Russian unit, dwindling from Shushi, a shortage of weapons and ammunition, a lack of military force, transportation of the Shusha regiment to its destination, and a fall of strategic importance Berdadzor, the loss of one of the most important centers of Armenian resistance – Baku, the interruption of General Andranik’s maneuver, gross mistakes in the sphere of management and security, especially the wrong strategy of self-defense, the illusion of the possibility of coexistence with aggressive Muslims, neglect of a number of military-political and socio-economic factors, etc. d.

The emphasis on the causes of the failure of Shushi’s self-defense is associated with the need to correctly understand the problems of historiography and consider them in a causal connection.
