Commentary from AGA-Tribunal.info:
This Statement of the Artsakh Foreign Ministry about Maragha is the shortest in size in comparison with the previous ones. However, it is the first time that crimes are called genocide. The 2020 Statement referred to Azerbaijan’s (just) attempt to carry out genocidal acts in 2016. In the Statements of 2013, 2014 … 2018 and 2019, as well as in the general Statement of the Artsakh Foreign Ministry (as of April 10, 2021) on the massacre in Maragha http://www.nkr.am/en/maragha-massacre, there was no word genocide. AGA-Tribunal.info calls on all Armenian organizations, officials, communities, publicists, bloggers to use exactly these terms – genocide, act of genocide, crime of genocide – in relation to the crimes of Azerbaijan and not only about crimes committed in Maragha in 1992.
In fact, for the first time in the annual Statementson Maragha of the MFA of the Republic of Artsakh, there are links to external web resources, including video. But there is a question for the first such link. As mentioned earlier, the web site in the link was launched in March 2010 and stopped its update in April 2010, there are no contacts, no news, no updates for 11 YEARS… This situation is far from rare with Armenian web resources, therefore, in particular and especially, the Armenian communities in Russia in their web resources should more actively support the theme of the truth about Maragha, which, unfortunately, is not yet noticeable.
Statement of MFA of the Republic of Artsakh of April 10, 2021
29 years ago, on April 10 the armed forces of Azerbaijan committed Genocide of the Armenian civilian population of Maragha settlement of the Republic of Artsakh.
The Azerbaijani troops invaded Maragha, tortured and killed the local civilian population, including women, children, and the elderly. Azeri soldiers beheaded 45 villagers, burnt others, took more than 100 women and children away as hostages.
Azerbaijani authorities awarded the perpetrators with high state awards. Their commander was conferred the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan. All it testifies that the Armenophobic and genocidal policy in Azerbaijan is encouraged at the highest state level.
The events in Maragha became the logical continuation of regular, systematic persecutions and genocidal actions committed by Azerbaijan against the Armenians.
Crimes against humanity have no statute of limitations and must be prosecuted and punished.
