The Russian Community of Nagorno-Karabakh is concerned about the destruction of the Armenian-Russian heritage in Karabakh regions that came under the control of Baku
On March 19, 2021, the first meeting of the Council of the Russian Community of Nagorno-Karabakh was held after the trilateral agreement on the end of hostilities (November 9, 2020). In this regard, a number of issues were discussed, including those related to social support for refugees and affected citizens of the Russian Federation who previously lived in the territories that came under the control of Baku.
It was also noted that in the post-war period, the Russian community, together with the peacekeeping forces of the Russian Federation and with the support of Viktor Krivopuskov, President of the Russian Society for Friendship and Cooperation with Armenia (RODSA), managed to hold several humanitarian charity events.
So, on February 23, Defender of the Fatherland Day, along with congratulations, more than 300 books were handed over to the Russian peacekeepers of the RODSA, including translations of Armenian writers and poets published in Russian, as well as other holiday gifts. Under the close supervision of the Orthodox priest of the peacekeeping forces of Russia, Fr. Boris, the smallest representatives of the community took an active part in one of the solemn events.

The participants of the meeting, on behalf of the Community, expressed extreme concern over the destruction of the Armenian-Russian heritage in those Karabakh regions that came under the control of Baku. Involvement of Russians in this, in fact, raider seizure of Armenian churches is unacceptable. There was a unanimous opinion that the Orthodox believers do not need to appropriate the Armenian churches, which for many years, in accordance with the agreement between the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) and the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC), served and serve as a spiritual haven for the Russian believers of Karabakh. False speculations about the destruction of Orthodox churches allegedly by Armenians sound at least disgusting and are an extremely double-sided propaganda element of anti-Armenian and anti-Russian policy. The old-timers of the community, like the entire older population of Artsakh, are well aware that all the Russian churches of Karabakh were destroyed by the Bolsheviks back in the thirties of the last century, about which, of course, the ROC and the AAC have archival materials. The Russians of Karabakh are also concerned about the lack of access to the cemeteries of Shushi, Gadrut, Fizuli (since 1827 the city of Karyagino, renamed in 1959), where their ancestors are buried, who liberated and added these lands to the Russian Empire during the Russian-Persian war (1804 -1813), as well as thousands of Russians and other Russians in subsequent years, up to November 9, 2020.
The head of the community Galina Somova urged compatriots not to succumb to provocations in order to exclude attempts to involve Russians in the false rewriting of the religious history of Karabakh, while remaining adherents of Christian morality and generally accepted universal values, expressed hope for long-term peace and security in the region, for the soonest establishing a dialogue between the conflicting parties under the patronage of the Russian Federation.
During the meeting, Alexander Bordov was elected as the deputy head of the Russian community, he made a significant contribution to supporting the Russian language and culture in Karabakh, organizing humanitarian aid to Armenian and Russian families affected by the Azerbaijan-Karabakh war.
