“The Yerevan Group for the Legal Recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Azerbaijan” welcomes the January 20, 2018 Statement of the Standing committee on foreign relations of the National Assembly the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic) in connection with the 28th Anniversary of mass pogroms of the Armenian population in Baku
in English http://www.nankr.am/en/2609 in Armenian http://www.nankr.am/hy/2609
The “Yerevan Group” considers this Statement as an important step towards the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Azerbaijan (AGA) and calls on all Armenian parties, organizations, media, genocide experts, journalists, bloggers, and friends of Armenia and Artsakh to maximize the dissemination of this Statement and informing the public, state structures and NGOs of all countries.
The crimes committed by Azerbaijan at the state level unquestionably correspond to the concept of “genocide” – with an intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
– this is the execution by Azerbaijani fascists of mass killings in the most brutal manner of Armenian citizens on the ethnic basis,
– this is the expulsion from whole Azerbaijan of Armenians living there for many centuries,
– this is the barbaric destruction or appropriation of the cultural heritage of the Armenian people,
– this is the state policy of total propaganda of Armenianophobia continued for decades, in particular, the slanderous “Khojaly” brand aimed at discrediting the Armenian people, which is also a form of genocidal policy. This fake brand aims to disorient the international community by presenting Armenians not as a victim, but as an executioner, and to obscure their own past and current brutal crimes.
The theme of AGA legal recognition is extremely important:
– for the affirmation of truth and justice,
– to call to account the organizers and executors of the AGA, as well as the deniers and continuers of the genocidal policy,
– to oppose and all-round condemnation of the genocidal policy of Azerbaijan, which has been throughout the existence of Azerbaijan to this day and is a continuation of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey,
– to oppose the policy of pan-Turkism of the Azerbaijan-Turkey tandem and the many years of disinformation of the authorities of Baku, including scheduled for the current year by the Baku authorities the next mass flow of lies in accordance with the presidential decree of January 18, 2018,
– for greater attention and assistance to refugees from Azerbaijan and their descendants,
– for breaking the “symmetric” attitude from Russia and other countries-members of “Minsk Group” to Azerbaijan (the terrorist state, the regional aggressor) and to Armenia / Artsakh (democratic states, objects of aggression), to the elimination of unacceptable formulations, incorrect vocabulary, chronology and cause-effect relationships in the description of history and the characteristics of events,
– to prevent similar crimes in the future.
The participants of the “Yerevan Group” established on October 2, 2017 are engaged in the condemnation of the AGA for decades, and since the end of 2016 they have begun the process of uniting efforts on this topic. Two representatives of the “Yerevan Group” in September 2017 had a meeting with members of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly of Rep. Artsakh and handed over a book with 200 statements by 70 public people condemning the AGA.
Some activities of the “Yerevan Group” members are reflected in the page

In view of the importance, the “Yerevan Group” calls for further steps:
– to the adoption of the Declaration by the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh in order to give the proper status to the document, possibly in the form of the Law (it should be added that not only the April aggression of Azerbaijan in 2016 was the result of not condemning the AGA, but also the unleashed war of 1991-94 and continuing “creeping” war for more than 20 years),
– to the adoption by the Parliament of the Republic of Armenia of a similar Statement and Law,
– to organize an international conference on the topic of AGA, timed to the 30th anniversary of the genocidal crimes in Sumgait,
– to appeal to an international court,
as well as to the adoption of those measures that were mentioned in a collective letter addressed to the Armenian authorities on January 18, 2017
