Until an appropriate assessment is given of what happened in the Azerbaijan SSR from 1988 to 1991, and until it is not yet said that the Armenians of Karabakh were forced to start defending themselves because of all this, there will be no peace in the region. This was announced at a meeting with journalists on February 2, 2018 by the coordinator of the Congress of Refugees from the Azerbaijan SSR Mariam Avagyan.

According to her, the problem of Armenian refugees from Azerbaijan is a problem not only of refugees themselves, but also of the Armenian state as a whole. “Otherwise, from the point of view of international law, Armenia has shown aggression against its neighboring state, allegedly attacked Azerbaijan, seized part of its territory by force,” Avagyan noted.

According to the head of the NGO, the current picture was the result of an incorrect and passive foreign policy pursued by the Armenian political elite. “Armenian refugees from Azerbaijan are forced to live in the USA, Russia, Europe, Armenia and Karabakh, and not a single problem has been properly resolved to this day,” Avagyan noted, adding that a museum of Armenian pogroms in Azerbaijan should be opened.
