On October 11, 2020, the Diaspora High Commissioner’s Office of the Republic of Armenia published a short Statement on Azerbaijan on its Facebook page.
“According to Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, war crimes are being committed by Azerbaijan and Turkey against the people of Artsakh. These two genocidal states are grossly violating international norms.”
Members of the Movement for the recognition of Azerbaijan as a genocidal state welcome the political and legal assessment by the state body of Armenia. However, this assessment should be:
- comprehensive, covering all the crimes of the genocide of Azerbaijan since 1918
- there should be a full-fledged legislative act from the Armenian parliament
- should be accepted by all Armenian communities of the world, by all parties of public organizations – by all Armenian Ashkhar.
It should be reminded that Zareh Sinanyan, the Chief Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, is a professional lawyer, but so far he refrained from such assessments. The current stage of this Movement, in particular, focuses on the activities of the International Public Tribunal for the crimes committed by Azerbaijan. On October 12, 2020, the Tribunal Organizing Committee sent a strong critical letter to the UN leadership (in two languages).
