Exactly one hundred years ago, on this day in the French city of Sevres, a Peace Treaty was signed between the Allies of the Entente and Turkey. In addition to a number of demands put forward to Turkey in favor of Armenia, this Treaty provided US President Woodrow Wilson with a legal basis for clarifying the borders between Armenia and Turkey through the well-known Arbitral Award. Unfortunately, the block of the Treaty of Serves concerning the Armenian issue was not implemented, and Turkey continued to oppress the Armenians until 1923 and has been hindering for a hundred years the process of recognizing the Armenian Genocide, as well as Genocide of the Greeks and Assyrians, and the process of eliminating the consequences of the committed crimes. Turkey avoids responsibility for the Genocide by shifting it onto the Turkish people. Moreover, Turkey, using its enormous influence on Azerbaijan, not only hinders the peaceful settlement of the Artsakh-Azerbaijani conflict, but also threatens the security of the region as a whole.
We, the undersigned members of the Alliance of Russian-Armenian Organizations,
– hope that the implementation of the requirements of the Treaty of Sevres (hereinafter referred to as the Treaty) will not only establish historical justice and restore the supremacy of this, from the point of view of international law, a unique Treaty, but also will become a deterrent to the pan-Turkic aspirations of Turkish president Erdogan;
– call on all parties of the Treaty to take responsibility for their signatures and to ensure the implementation of the provisions of the Treaty, forcing Turkey to keep its obligations under this Treaty;
– condemn the denial policy of the Turkish authorities and demand from the Turkish government the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and Patricide in 1915-1923;
– demand from Turkey to eliminate the consequences of the Genocide and provide full compensation to the heirs of all victims, including the Republic of Armenia, which in 1918-1921 was a subject of international law;
– condemn any attempts by Turkey to interfere in the Artsakh-Azerbaijani conflict and demand from Turkey to immediately stop arming the Azerbaijani army;
– demand an end to the provocative anti-Armenian statements that incite hostility and strife between friendly peoples;
– are confident that in the civilized world people will find the strength to restore historical justice and to assert the rule of international law in the interests of regional security;
– believe that compliance with the Treaty of Serves will lead to the prevention of a repetition of genocides throughout the world and to the elimination of the factor of impunity for crimes against humanity;
– openly declare that the members of the Alliance of Russian-Armenian Organizations will make every effort in the future to restore historical and legal justice and establish peace in the region.
